What is Formula?
- Formula is an Expression that operate on values in a range of cells.
- Formula must start with an “=” sign.
in this below picture, we have to calculate total of those item, here we need to use excel formula for get the result of total.
This is call formula.
What is Function?
- Function is short form of formula.
- Function is ready made pre-built formula for Specific purpose.
- Almost all function needs input to calculate result. Inputs also call as arguments.
- Function also start with an “=” sign.
- For example, if you want to calculate 5 numbers, then if you use formula, it’s gonna be long & not easy to type. But function takes less time & gets you result quickly.
in this below picture, we need to total result. so, here we have to type a function call “sum” ,
this function used for add multiple numbers.
SUM Function
- Purpose : used for add multiple numbers.
- Syntax :
=sum(number1,number2,......)
- Arguments
- Number1 : the first number which need to add.
- Number2 : the first number which need to add.
Minimum Function
- Purpose : used for calculate minimum numbers form range.
- Syntax :
=min(number1,number2,......)
- Arguments
- Number1 : the first number which need to minimum.
- Number2 : the first number which need to minimum.
Maximum Function
- Purpose: used for calculating maximum numbers from range.
- Syntax :
=max(number1,number2,......)
- Arguments
- Number1 : the first number which need to maximum.
- Number2 : the first number which need to maximum.
Average Function
- Purpose: used to calculate average numbers from range.
- Syntax :
=average(number1,number2,......)
- Arguments
- Number1: the first number needs to be Average.
- Number2: the first number needs to be Average.
HLookup Function
- Purpose: used to Look UP Values or String from the Table Horizontally.
- Syntax :
=HLOOKUP (lookup_value, table_array, row_index, [range_lookup])
- Arguments
- Lookup_Value: the value which finds in the table.
- Table_array: the table, where the lookup value is present.
- Row_index: Row number form table where lookup value present.
- [range_lookup] : optional.
VLookup Function
- Purpose: used to Look UP Values or String from Table Vertically.
- Syntax :
=VLOOKUP (lookup_value, table_array, column_index, [range_lookup])
- Arguments
- Lookup_Value: the value which finds in the table.
- Table_array: the table, where the lookup value is present.
- Column_index: column number form table where lookup value present.
- [range_lookup] : optional.
Rank Function
- Purpose: The Excel RANK function returns the rank of a numeric value when compared to a list of other numeric values. RANK can rank values from largest to smallest.
- Syntax :
=VLOOKUP (lookup_value, table_array, column_index, [range_lookup])
- Arguments
- number: the number to Rank.
- Reference: the list of numbers is compared.
- [order] : Optional.
