Life is Not an Easy Business
The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a scientific novella by R L Stevenson which describes a strange thing that a man has dual personalities and that can be choked out by medicine. When I first read the book I find it quite absurd. But later I was astonished to see how one of my friends connected it to our current lives. Dr Jekyll was a talented medical practitioner. When he tried one of his portions he changed to a stout, ugly man who was named Hyde. Jekyll was a man with values and good at heart. But Hyde had a personality as ugly as he was. my friend connected it to the way we act in social media and life.
Today in social media we try to make a perfect man, which we want ourselves to be. We act as intellectuals who are ready to change the humankind. But we fail to be the same in life. What we pose in front of the society is what we want to be and not what we are. Seldom the society is reluctant to accept us how we are despite how good you are. A black dot on a whiteboard will be seen clearly than a white dot on a blackboard. So is the evil in a good man and goodness in an evil man.
Shakespeare in one of his dramas said: “God has given you a face and you make yourself another”. God created man as a farrago of power and weakness. It is often this weakness that leads a man evil. But one he is evil he has to cover up his weakness and he makes another personality for himself which he designs with utmost perfection. It is in the fear of seclusion men wants to change himself to be perfect.
Over the social media, people try to mask up their imperfect personalities. They act to principled and other sorts. With the spread of the Internet, it has become to impersonate. And in the real life, he tries to hide his weakness by acting in front of society. The living of dual personalities can often cause him to choose by a side. Most often people choose to cling to the bad side as they don’t feel themselves to be good. This makes up depression which will do no good to himself and the society.
When someone grieves for their bad and come back to be good the society brands them a avoid them and treat them heinous. Society knowingly forgets that it is
a situation with its guidance can make a man good or bad. Situations are made in accordance with the society. So is it the society or the person or fate to be blamed?
